El Yunque Rainforest

El Yunque Rainforest

El Yunque, also known as the Caribbean National Forest, is a lush and enchanting rainforest nestled in the northeastern part of Puerto Rico

As the only tropical rainforest within the United States National Forest System, El Yunque is a haven of biodiversity, natural beauty, and ecological wonders. Covering approximately 28,000 acres, El Yunque is a verdant paradise characterized by dense forests, cascading waterfalls, and mist-covered peaks. The forest is named after the ancient Indian spirit Yuquiyú, who was believed to inhabit the mountains. The landscape is a mosaic of diverse ecosystems, ranging from subtropical forest to dwarf forest at higher elevations. At the heart of El Yunque lies La Mina Falls, a stunning waterfall that cascades into a natural pool, inviting visitors to cool off in its refreshing waters.
